This policy applies to the iOS/watchOS app StrideSync (a.k.a. StrideSync Music) and the macOS app Stride BPM, collectively referred to as "the apps."

Overview

The apps are designed with privacy as a default. Neither app has backend servers operated by the developer. No personal information is sold, rented, or shared with advertisers. The apps do not include third-party analytics SDKs or advertising networks.

Data Collected and How It Is Used

Motion and Cadence

StrideSync uses your iPhone's motion sensors (via Core Motion) and, if an Apple Watch is paired, the Watch's accelerometer to measure your walking or running cadence in steps per minute. This data is processed entirely on-device and is never transmitted to any server operated by the developer.

Music Library

StrideSync requests access to your local music library to read song titles, artists, BPM metadata, and album artwork. This information is used locally to match songs to your stride rate. Song metadata (title and artist) is sent to the ReccoBeats API — a third-party music tempo service — when you use the automatic BPM lookup feature in the BPM Library Editor. No other music data leaves your device. See the ReccoBeats section below.

Health and Workout Data (HealthKit)

With your permission, StrideSync writes workout session data — including active time, distance, and calorie estimates — to Apple HealthKit. This data is governed by Apple's HealthKit terms and your device's Health privacy settings. The developer does not access, store, or transmit HealthKit data. HealthKit data is never used for advertising or sold to third parties.

Location

For outdoor workouts, StrideSync may request access to your device's GPS to record a route map. Location data is stored locally in HealthKit alongside your workout and is never transmitted to developer servers.

Bluetooth

If you use a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) cycling cadence sensor, StrideSync on Apple Watch connects to that sensor to read pedal cadence. No data from the sensor is stored or transmitted beyond being used in real time during your workout.

iCloud / CloudKit

StrideSync reads BPM values stored in your private iCloud database by the companion app Stride BPM. This data lives entirely within your personal iCloud account and is never visible to or accessible by the developer. The CloudKit container used is iCloud.com.codycabana.apps.Stride-BPM.

Local Storage

User preferences (tolerance settings, playlist selection, manual BPM overrides) are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage. This data does not leave your device except through iCloud device sync, which is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Third-Party Services

ReccoBeats

When you tap "Tag Untagged Songs" or request automatic BPM detection in the BPM Library Editor, the title and artist name of each untagged song are transmitted to the ReccoBeats API (api.reccobeats.com), a free third-party music tempo service operated by Lattebits. These requests are made over an encrypted HTTPS connection. No account information, device identifiers, or personal information is included.

ReccoBeats does not publish a privacy policy. Their Terms of Service state that core track metadata originates from Spotify data and that the service is provided on an "as-is" basis with no warranty. By using the BPM lookup feature, you acknowledge that song title and artist data will be transmitted to this third-party service. If you prefer not to share this data, you can use on-device audio analysis or tap tempo instead — both work entirely on your device with no network requests.

Apple Services

The apps use Apple frameworks including HealthKit, Core Motion, MusicKit, CloudKit, and WatchConnectivity. Data processed through these frameworks is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Stride BPM (macOS)

Stride BPM is a companion utility for tagging DRM-protected Apple Music songs with BPM values.

Music Library Access

Stride BPM reads song titles, artist names, and persistent identifiers from your local Music library to identify which songs to tag. This information is processed locally and used only to write BPM data back to your personal iCloud database.

iCloud / CloudKit

BPM values you assign are stored in your private iCloud database (CloudKit container iCloud.com.codycabana.apps.Stride-BPM). This data is part of your personal iCloud account. The developer cannot access, read, or modify records in your private CloudKit database.

No Network Requests

Stride BPM does not make requests to any developer-operated server. The only external communication is with Apple's CloudKit infrastructure, which is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Data Retention and Deletion

Workout history stored in HealthKit can be deleted at any time from the Apple Health app. Local preferences can be cleared by deleting the app. CloudKit BPM records can be deleted through iCloud.com → Manage Storage → [app name].

Children's Privacy

The apps are not directed at children under 13 and do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, an updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised effective date.
