BackTrack Cue Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 6, 2026
BackTrack Cue is a performance tool for musicians: it stores your songs, setlists, and backing tracks, plays a pre-programed metronome click, and offers a couple of optional conveniences for finding a song's BPM. This policy explains what data the app touches and where it goes.
Summary
BackTrack Cue does not have an account system, does not run analytics or advertising, and does not collect, sell, or share your personal information. Nearly everything the app does happens entirely on your device.
Information We Store
All of your content — songs, setlists, BPM values, cue points, imported audio files, and app settings — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data:
- Never leaves your device unless you explicitly export or back it up (see below).
- Is not visible to, or accessible by, the developer.
- Is deleted if you delete the app.
Audio Files You Import
When you import a backing track (via the Files app or your Apple Music library), BackTrack Cue copies that audio file into the app's own local storage so playback doesn't depend on an external location (like iCloud Drive or Dropbox) staying reachable during a live performance. These files stay on your device and are only read by the app to play them back or, optionally, to analyze their tempo (see below).
On-Device Tempo Detection
BackTrack Cue can estimate a song's BPM by analyzing the waveform of a backing track you've already imported. This analysis runs entirely on your device — no audio or file data is ever sent anywhere for this feature.
Optional Online BPM Lookup
As a convenience, BackTrack Cue can look up a song's BPM by querying ReccoBeats, a free, unauthenticated third-party music metadata service. If you use this feature:
- Only the song title you've entered is sent, as a search query, to ReccoBeats' servers.
- No artist name, audio file, file content, device identifier, or any other personal information is sent.
- This lookup is never required — playback and every other feature work fully offline, and you can always enter a BPM manually or use on-device tempo detection instead.
Requests to ReccoBeats are subject to ReccoBeats' own privacy practices, which are outside our control.
Backups and Exports
BackTrack Cue lets you create a backup of your library (songs, setlists, and audio files) as a folder on your device. The app itself never uploads this backup anywhere. If you choose to save or share that backup — for example through the system share sheet to Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, or email — that transfer is initiated by you, to a destination you choose, and is governed by the privacy policy of whichever service you pick.
Permissions
BackTrack Cue may ask for access to:
- Your Media Library — only to let you pick a song from Apple Music to import as a backing track. The app does not browse or read your library beyond the item you select.
- Files — only to let you import audio files you choose through the system file picker.
BackTrack Cue does not request microphone access and does not record audio.
Bluetooth and Audio Output
BackTrack Cue mixes click and backing-track audio internally and sends a single, ordinary stereo signal to whatever output device iPadOS is currently routed to (speakers, wired headphones, or a Bluetooth speaker/headphones). The app never forms its own connection to, or exchanges data with, an output device directly — it relies entirely on iPadOS's standard audio routing.
Children's Privacy
BackTrack Cue does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information from any user.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, an updated version will be included with the app and the effective date above will be revised.
